Hello, good day and welcome to The Book Lender.
Perhaps more honestly, this blog should be called "The Aspirant Book Lender", or "The Book Lender To-Be". For I am not a librarian, but I would very much like to be. I cannot think of another job that more perfectly matches my personality, skills and interests. I'm just surprised it took me 30 years to realise this. And so, in October this year, I shall begin a Masters course with the aim of becoming a librarian.
I know that now is not the best time to be entering this field - especially in the UK, where Alexandria seems to be burning all over again. But maybe that makes it all the more important that I do this. I want to fight for libraries and what they stand for. They are important cultural, educational and community institutions, as well as being magical portals to an infinite number of other worlds.
I will probably update this blog a lot more once I have started the course, or once I start doing relevant work (I have an interview soon to do some archival volunteer work for a London charity). But in the mean time, you can check out my twitter feed @thebooklender or read any of the excellent entrants in my blog roll to the right.
OK, I'm off to the library. Happy National Libraries Day 2012!
Happy reading!
